Meet Tom Paolella

Enjoy the Process is a saying that applies to many events in our lives— for most people, shopping for a car or truck is not one of them. One common complaint is a lack of confidence that the dealer has offered the best price. (Remember the Seinfeld dealership episode and the line item for “additional overcharge”?) Others find it tedious, confusing, or time-consuming. Then there is Tom Paolella who embraces the process. Nine years ago, Tom founded Car Concierge Plus, a unique service to level the playing field between dealers and buyers.

 



CM: What services does Car Concierge Plus offer?
Tom:
Our mission is to be a true advocate on behalf of our clients. We save our clients countless hours of shopping and the hassle of negotiating, and also take care of all the initial legwork involved, including test drives. Clients simply let us know the vehicle they want, and we negotiate with multiple dealerships until we get the lowest possible price (which we guarantee in writing or their money back). Some clients don’t know what they want, so we take the time to give our unbiased opinion and truly listen to their needs. We can also negotiate the value of their trade-in and save additional money by negotiating extended warranties, tire insurance, etc.

CM: How do you differ from other similar companies?
Tom:
Car Concierge Plus is in a category of its own. We are not car “brokers” as we do not accept a penny from the dealership itself. Many of our clients come to us after they have tried other companies and experienced deals falling through at the very end, or the numbers changing at the time of signing papers.

CM: Your testimonials are glowing endorsements. What surprises your clients the most about Car Concierge Plus?
Tom:
We are proud to have hundreds of 5-star reviews. Clients constantly mention just how drama-free the process is– and that we should charge more! Most of our clients never knew a service like this existed but once they do, the word-of-mouth referrals are through the roof – we have one family who has used our services 14 times among the family!

CM: Clients suggesting you should charge more is high praise! How are you compensated?
Tom:
Unlike others, our flat service fee is stated up front, with no sliding scale. Typically, clients can expect to pay within a range of $450 for a pre-owned vehicle and $550 for a new one. Many other consultants charge a fluctuating percentage based upon the market, type of car, etc.

CM: Are there any particular clients/stories that resonate?
Tom:
One that immediately comes to mind is the family who was in a terrible accident the morning they were supposed to leave for their dream Disney vacation. We used every resource at our disposal and the family was in their brand-new minivan ready for their road-trip in less than four hours after the initial call. Another is a wife who surprised her sick husband with his dream Corvette before he passed. These are just a few; there are countless first-time high school drivers, surprise anniversaries, and more. (Laughs) I could write a book that would have you in tears by the end of chapter one. It never ceases to amaze me how we can become part of a family’s life after helping them through a stressful time. My clients are THE most loyal folks I know and are nurses, plumbers, teachers, and Fortune 500 CEOs to name a few – all sharing the same car buying stress.

CM: Favorite Quote/ Philosophy?
Tom:
“If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” In nine years, I have more than 1000 clients across 48 states. I am so proud that the original philosophy of “putting the customer first” is still at the heart of every deal we do. We treat each and every client – those with the $5000 budget or the $500,000 budget- like they are all buying a Rolls Royce.
