RFH Class of 2021 Gets the Celebration They Deserve

On June 17, 2021, in a ceremony that resembled normalcy and tradition in every sense, 245 extraordinary students sat together for the last time on the field of Kessler Stadium at Monmouth University for the conferral of their diplomas to mark their graduation from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School.

In accordance with Governor’s Murphy’s relaxation of mandates on outdoor gatherings in light of the improving pandemic, graduates were honored in a traditional fashion, surrounded by faculty, family and friends.  In what has become standard over the past year, the ceremony was live-streamed for all family members and friends who could not or preferred not to attend and for the entire community to watch and celebrate. Valedictorian Morgan Rice, Class of 2020 president Kayla Kenny and Student Government President Peter O’Connor, took turns addressing their fellow graduates, faculty, staff, administrators, Board of Education members, and their family and friends. Each spoke about both the expected high school memories and those more unexpected and unique to the last year of unprecedented circumstances that the Class of 2021 shared and shared words of inspiration for an uncharted future.  Mr. Kevin Pfister, first year principal, delivered his first graduation address illuminating the remarkable resiliency and spirit of the Class of 2021 and the entire RFH Community while Superintendent Debra Gulick applauded the Class of 2021’s momentous academic and extracurricular achievements in the face of unparalleled adversity.

Despite the long awaited traditions surrounding the close of this school year, the Class of 2021 has endured a senior year of high school like no class ever before them.  They persevered through a completely unprecedented hybrid learning environment, navigated brand new educational technology and competed, performed and connected with each other and their teachers in completely unique COVID-friendly ways.  While it certainly wasn’t easy, the RFH Class of 2021 has shared an experience that not only made them more resilient and adaptable, but one that brought them closer and has prepared them in an extremely unique way for the challenges that may lie ahead.  Despite the stress and unpredictability of this past year, the students were beaming with pride as they donned their purple and white for the last time officially as RFH Bulldogs.
