    Holmdel Mayor DJ Luccarelli and the Township Committee announced that they will be sponsoring a donation drive to provide aid to those affected by this month’s earthquake in Turkey and Syria. All members of the Holmdel community and our neighbors are invited to participate. Donated items can be dropped off in the lobby of Holmdel Town Hall, located at 4 Crawfords Corner Road. The Township asks that donations be limited to the specifically requested items in order to expedite packing and ensure delivery of the items to the affected areas.

    Monmouth County Park System E. Murray Todd Half Marathon Planned for Sunday, March 12

    The Monmouth County Park System will hold its annual E. Murray Todd Half Marathon on Sunday, March 12. This 13.1-mile race takes runners through Lincroft, Holmdel and Colts Neck. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. Race medals will be awarded to all registered finishers. Pre-registration is available online at www.MonmouthCountyParks.com until March 5 and costs $40 per person. Race day registration is also available beginning at 7 a.m. and costs $60 per person; cash or check only.

    A Run to Remember for Holmdel’s Ed Harris

    There is an expression that “bad things happen to good people,” and so it was for local “good guy” Ed Harris and his family. Ed succumbed to complications from COVID-19 in a hospital early last year, before very much was known about the disease. The diagnosis, and restrictions on visiting, blindsided and devastated his family. “We could not visit our dad in the hospital due to strict rules, so all we could do was pray. As he slowly got worse, we made sure to stay strong for our mom,” recalled his sons, Nick and Jeff. Although the family could not physically be with him, Ed was surrounded by the love of his family and the community, and the affection continues.

She underwent over two years of aggressive chemotherapy and has been in remission since November of 2014. While the Gorsegner’s are grateful for their daughter’s survival, they know all too well that many families do not share their same good fortune as childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for our kids here in the United States and unfortunately funding for childhood cancer research is extremely limited (in over 25 years only three new drugs have been developed for any type of childhood cancer)! Inspired by their own daughter and the thousands of other fighters, the family launched their grassroots foundation, Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer.

What started in 2002 as a pick-up event among a few friends, has now grown into a colossal community fundraiser helping to tackle hunger with Lunch Break as its sole benefactor.     More than 500 guests celebrated and supported the work of Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNA Health Group) under a harvest moon at the organization’s recent “Beach Ball.” The evening, which took place at Chapel Beach Club in Sea Bright, was a casual celebration on the beach as guests — decked out in shorts, sandals, and sundresses — strolled through the sand to enjoy a Jersey Shore-inspired menu of food trucks and local restaurant tastings. When not bidding on the more than 45 auction items, guests danced to the eclectic music of Groove Shop, gathered around a fire pit to toast marshmallows for s’mores, or simply enjoyed the breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
